Jabir ibn ‘Abdullah related that the Messenger of Allah (SAW) said talbiyah prayer for hajj, Him and his Companions, but at the time none of them had a sacrificial animal [hadi] except the Prophet (SAW) and Talha. And ‘Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) had come back from Yemen, and had a hadi with him, and said: I did talbiyah like the Messenger of Allah (SAW) had done talbiyah. The Prophet (SAW) told his Companions to change it into a ‘umrah pilgrimage, to do a circumambulation, then to trim [their hair] and release themselves from ritual purity [ihram], except for anyone who had a hadi with them. And they said: Shall we set out for Mina with our penises dripping? The Messenger of Allah (SAW) got word of this and said: If I had known before about this issue of mine what I know now, I would not have come with a hadi; and if I did not have a hadi with me, I would have released myself from ihram.
