‘Umar said: I agreed with my Lord on three things, for I said: Oh Messenger of Allah, I wish we could take the place where Ibrahim stood as a place of prayer. And so this came down : { Take your place of prayer the place where Ibrahim stood } [Al-baqara 125]. And the verse of the hijab – I said: Oh Messenger of Allah, I wish you would tell your women to cover themselves, for indeed good as well as immoral people talk to them. And so the verse of the hijab came down. And then the Prophet’s (SAW) wives banded together in jealousy against him, and I said to them: It may be that his Lord, if He gets you all divorced, will instead give him wives that are better than you. So that verse came down [Al-tahrim 5].
