Jabir ibn ‘Abdullah said: A thief was brought to the Prophet (SAW), and He said: Kill him. But they said: Oh Messenger of Allah, he has only committed theft. And so He said: Cut it off [his right hand]. So they cut it off. Then he was brought a second time, and He said: Kill him. But they said: Oh Messenger of Allah, he has only committed theft. So He said: Cut it off [his left foot]. So they cut it off. Then he was brought a third time, and He said: Kill him. But they said: Oh Messenger of Allah, he has only committed theft. So He said: Cut it off [his left hand]. Then he was brought a fourth time, and He said: Kill him. But they said: Oh Messenger of Allah, he has only committed theft. He said: Cut it off [his right foot]. And he was brought a fifth time, and He said: Kill him. Jabir related: So we took him away and killed him, then we dragged him and cast him into a well, then we threw stones on top of him.
