مسند أحمد حديث ابي أمامة
Abu Umamah said: The Messenger of Allah (SAW) was seated in the mosque, and they thought that revelation was descending upon him, so they let him be, until Abu Dharr arrived and came right through everyone, and sat down next to him. And the Prophet (SAW) turned to him and said: “Oh Abu Dharr, have you prayed today?” He said: “No.” He said: “Get up and pray.” And when he had prayed the four rak’ah of duha [late morning] prayer, He turned to him and said: “Oh Abu Dharr, seek refuge in Allah from the evil of the devils of Jinn and mankind.” He said: “Oh Prophet of Allah, and does mankind have devils?” He said, “Yes, the devils of mankind and Jinn inspire each other with beautiful speech in order to deceive.” Then He said: “Oh Abu Dharr, shall I not teach you a word from the treasure of Jannah?” He said: “Yes indeed, may Allah make me your ransom!” He said: “Say: There is no might nor power but by Allah.” And I said: “There is no might nor power but by Allah.” He said: “Now then, stop talking to me.” But I found that He was not saying much, and I said: “Oh Prophet of Allah, indeed we were people of the age of ignorance, and idol worshippers, but then Allah sent you forth as a mercy to the worlds; what do you think about prayer – what is it?” He said: “The best thing; whoever wishes, may seek it themselves, and whoever wishes, may endeavour more.” I said: “Oh Prophet of Allah, What do you think about fasting – what is it?” He said: “A profitable obligation.” I said: “Oh Prophet of Allah, what do you think about charity [sadaqah] – what is it?” He said: “A doubling many times over, and with Allah there is even more.” I said: “Oh Prophet of Allah, what is the best sadaqah?” He said: “Something done in secret to the poor, and someone destitute giving his best effort.” I said: “Oh Prophet of Allah, what was the greatest thing that was sent down to you?” He said: “ { Allah, there is no god but him, the Living One, the Everlasting One } ” (The throne verse.) I said: “Oh Prophet of Allah, who are the best martyrs?” He said: “Those whose blood is spilled and whose steeds are slain.” I said: “Oh Prophet of Allah, and what are the best necks [i.e. slaves]?” He said: “The most costly and esteemed of them among their people.” I said: “Oh Prophet of Allah, and which of the prophets was first?” He said: “Adam.” I said: “Oh Prophet of Allah, and was Adam a prophet?” He said: “Yes, a prophet who was spoken to directly; Allah created him by his hand and then breathed his spirit into him, then said to him ‘Oh Adam!’ face to face.” I said: “Oh Messenger of Allah, how many prophets were there?” He said: “One hundred and twenty-four thousand; of those the messengers were three hundred and fifteen, a great multitude.”
