Regarding { By the star when it plunges down; your Companion has not gone astray, nor is He lost } , Qatada related that ‘Utba ibn Abi Lahab said: “I have disbelieved in the Lord of the star.” And the Messenger of Allah (SAW) said: “Are you not afraid that Allah’s dog will eat you?!” Then he ['Utba] set out to do some business in Yemen, and while they were settling in for the night, all of a sudden he heard a lion roar, and he said to his companions: “I’m going to be eaten!” And they all got together around him, but he hit them on the eardrums and they fell asleep. And he [the lion] came and grabbed him, and they heard nothing but his voice. … Ibn Tawus related from his father that the Prophet (SAW) said: “Are you not afraid that Allah will set his dog loose on you?!” And Ibn Abi Lahab set out on a journey with some people, until they reached a certain point along the way when they heard a lion roar. And he said: “What can this be but that he is coming to get me.” And his companions gathered around him and put him in the middle, until when they had fallen asleep the lion came and grabbed him from among them.
