Ibn Juraij said: Suleiman ibn Musa Al-Shami asked ‘Ataa ibn Abi Rabah – and I was listening – “Did you get to see the figures of Maryam and ‘Isa in the House [i.e. the Ka’ba]?” He said: “Yes – I saw the figure of Maryam, adorned, with ‘Isa seated in her lap. And there were six columns in the House, and the figure of ‘Isa and Maryam was on the pillar next to the door.” And I said to ‘Ataa: “When was it destroyed?” He said: “In the fire at the time of Ibn Al-Zubair.” I said: “Do you mean that it was during the time of the Messenger of Allah (SAW)?” He said: “I don’t know, but I do think it was during his time.”
