Huwaitib ibn ‘Abd Al-‘Uzza and others related that on the day of the conquest [of Mecca], the Messenger of Allah (SAW) entered into the House [i.e. the Ka’ba], and ordered for a garment to be moistened with water, and He ordered for the images there to be effaced – but He placed his hands over the picture of ‘Isa and his mother, and said: “Wipe out everything except what is under my hand.” (Narrated by Al-Azraqi in The History of Mecca.)
