Ibn ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with both of them) related that the Prophet (SAW) said: Indeed we are an uneducated people [ummah ummiyyah]; we don’t write and we don’t take accounts; months are such and such. (That is, at times twenty-nine days and at times thirty.)
