A man from the people of Sham heard Abdullah ibn Mas’ud relate: The Messenger of Allah (SAW) said to his Companions, while He was in Mecca: “Whoever of you would like to be there tonight for the occasion of the Jinn, let him do so.” But none of them came except me. So we set out until we were at the high point of Mecca, and He traced a line for me with his foot, and ordered me to sit down inside of it. Then He set out until He stood in one position and began to recite the Qur’an; and a multitude of dark figures shrouded him, and got between me and him, so that I could no longer hear his voice. Then they went and began to disperse like clouds and leave, until only a group of them remained. And the Messenger of Allah (SAW) panicked when dawn came, and went and defecated, then came to me and said: What did the group of them do? I said: Those are them, oh Messenger of Allah. So He grabbed some bones and some dung and gave it to them to eat. Then He forbade anyone from using bones or dung to wipe with.
