‘Amr related that Abdullah ibn Mas’ud said: The Prophet (SAW) asked me to come with him, and we set out until we reached a certain location, and He traced a line for me and said to me: Stay between the two edges of this – don’t go outside of it; if you go outside, it’s over for you. Abdullah said: So I stayed there. Then the Messenger of Allah (SAW) went off a spear’s throw - or he said: A little farther. Then he [Abdullah ibn Mas’ud] mentioned some male members [haneen, i.e. men] like Zutt people (or whatever Allah wills), with no clothes on - but I did not see their genitals - , tall and scrawny. And they came and began to ride the Messenger of Allah (SAW), and the Prophet of Allah (SAW) began to recite to them. And they began to come and gather around me from all sides and break wind around me [or "mock me"]. And I became intensely terrified of them, so I sat down - or something like that. And when the morning light broke, they began to leave. Then the Messenger of Allah (SAW) came back exhausted, in pain or possibly in pain from how they had ridden him, and He said: Indeed I am exhausted. And the Messenger of Allah (SAW) put his head in my lap. Then the men came with tall white garments on, but the Messenger of Allah (SAW) had fallen asleep. And I became more intensely terrified than I had been the first time. Then some of them said to the others: This man has been given good things - or something like that - indeed his eyes sleep - or his eye sleeps - , but his heart is awake. Then some of them said to the others: Come, let us make a riddle about him. And some of them said to the others: Make a riddle about him, and we will solve it - or: We will make a riddle, and you all can solve it. Then some of them said: He is a man like a master - or they said: He is a master - , who builds a well-fortified building, then sends out food to people; and whoever does not take his food - or they said: Whoever does not follow him - , is punished severely. And the others replied: Indeed the master is the Lord of the Worlds, and indeed the building is Islam, and the food is Jannah, and this is he who bids people to come, and whoever follows after him will be in Jannah, and whoever does not follow after him will be punished. He [Abdullah ibn Mas’ud] said: Then the Messenger of Allah (SAW) woke up and said: What did you see, oh Ibn Umm ‘Abd? He said: I saw this and that. And the Prophet of Allah (SAW) said: Nothing of what they said has been hidden from me? The Prophet of Allah (SAW) said: They were a group of angels - or He said: They were angels. Or whatever Allah Mighty and Sublime wills.
