Kinana ibn Al-Rabi’ was brought to the Messenger of Allah (SAW) – with him was the treasure of the Banu Nadir. And He asked him about it, but he denied knowing where it was. And a man from the Jews was brought to the Messenger of Allah (SAW), and he said to the Messenger of Allah (SAW): Indeed I have seen Kinana going around the site of these ruins every morning. And the Messenger of Allah (SAW) said to Kinana: What do you think, if we find it with you, that I kill you? He said: Yes. So the Messenger of Allah (SAW) gave orders regarding the site of the ruins, and it was excavated, and part of their treasure was recovered. Then He asked about the rest of it, but he refused to show where it was, so the Messenger of Allah (SAW) gave orders regarding him to Al-Zubair ibn Al-‘Awwam, saying: Torture him until you get to the bottom of what he has. And Al-Zubair started a fire with sticks on his chest until he was at the brink of death, then the Messenger of Allah (SAW) handed him over to Muhammad ibn Maslama, and he beheaded him [in revenge] for his brother Mahmoud ibn Maslama.
