Ibn Ishaq said: Then they [the Banu Quraiza] were called down and the Messenger of Allah (SAW) held them in the house of Al-Harith’s daughter, a woman of the Banu Al-Najjar. Then the Messenger of Allah (SAW) went out to the market in Medina, the one which is still its market today, and dug trenches in it. Then He sent for them, and struck their necks [beheaded them] in these trenches, they being brought out to him in groups. Among them was the enemy of Allah Huyayy ibn Akhtab and Ka’b ibn Asad, the leader of the tribe. There were six or seven hundred of them; the one with the most ominous report of them said that there were eight to nine hundred. And while they were being taken in groups to the Messenger of Allah (SAW), they said to Ka’b ibn Asad: Oh Ka’b, what do you think He’s going to do to us?! And Ka’b said: You all don’t ever get it! Don’t you see that the one who is summoning us does not dismiss anyone, and that any of you who is taken away does not come back? By God this means killing! And the affair went on until the Messenger of Allah (SAW) had finished with them.
