فقد روينا في صحيحي البخاري ومسلم عن أم كلثوم أنها سمعت رسول الله ﷺ يقول ليس الكذاب الذي يُصلح بين الناس فينمي خيراً أو يقول خيراً هذا القدر في صحيحيهما وزاد مسلم في رواية له قالت أم كلثوم ولم أسمعه يرخّص في شيء مما يقول الناس إلا في ثلاث يعني الحرب والاصلاح بين الناس وحديث الرجل امرأته والمرأة زوجه ا فهذا حديث صريح في إباحة بعض الكذب للمصلحة وقد ضبط العلماء ما يباح منه

We have narrated from the two Sahihs, Al-Bukhari and Muslim, from Umm Kulthum, that she heard the Messenger of Allah (SAW) say: Someone who reconciles people by conveying good things or saying good things is not a liar. This is the extent to which it goes in both Sahih volumes. But Muslim in his narration adds that Umm Kulthim said: I didn’t hear him give license [to lie] for anything that people might say, except in three things – that is, in war, in reconciling among people, and when a man speaks to his woman or a woman to her husband. So this is explicit speech that it is sometimes permissible to lie when it is of benefit; and the scholars have stipulated when it is permissible.
