‘Isa is an Arabized form of the name Yeshua’ or Yesua’, the name of ‘Isa son of Maryam; they flipped it to Arabize it [i.e. from ى-س-ع to ع-س-ى], switching places in order to make it easier, since it was awkward and hard to pronounce with the letters that way. This is because the order of the two vowels in the word, plus the letter shin sealed by a guttural letter, does not make for a natural arrangement of letters with breathing when pronouncing them. So they put the letter ‘ain first since it is a gluttural letter, to begin the pronunciation, then they moved the letters to be harmonious, and changed the heavy dotted letter shin ش into an undotted sin س. Indeed the eloquence of the Arabic language comes from Allah. And the meaning of Yeshua’ in Hebrew is “Lord” or “blessed”.
