Her lineage has been presented in the section of her father Abdullah ibn 'Uthman (may Allah Most High be pleased with them). Her mother was Umm Ruman bint 'Amir ibn 'Uwaimir Al-Kinaniya. She was born four or five years after the confirmation of prophethood, and it is affirmed in the Sahih that the Prophet (may Allah pray over him and his family and salute him) married her when she was a six-year-old girl; it is also said seven-year-old, but all agree that she had reached six years and had entered her seventh. And He consummated with her [dakhala biha] when she was a nine-year-old girl, and his consummation with her was in the month of Shawwal, in the first year [after hijra], as Ibn Sa'd relates from Al-Waqidi …
Yahya ibn 'Abd Al-Rahman ibn Hatib relates from 'Aishah that she said: When Khadijah passed away, Khawlah bint Hakim ibn Al-Awqas, the woman of 'Uthman ibn Madh'un, said: – and this was in Mecca – Now now Messenger of Allah, should you not marry? He said: To who? She said: If you like, a virgin, or if you like, someone previously married. He said: And who would be the virgin? She said: The daughter of what is most beloved to you of Allah's creation, 'Aishah bint Abi Bakr. He said: And who would be the previously married woman? She said: Sawdah bint Zam'a – she has believed in you and followed you. He said: Go and mention me to both of them. So she went and entered the house of Abu Bakr, and found Umm Ruman, and said: How Allah has come upon you all with favor and blessing! Umm Ruman said: What is that about? She said: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah pray over him and his family and salute him) has sent me to ask for him 'Aishah's hand in marriage. Umm Ruman said: I like that; wait for Abu Bakr. And Abu Bakr came and she told him. He said: Is she suitable for him, being the daughter of his brother? And she [Khawlah] went back and told this to the Prophet (may Allah pray over him and his family and salute him), and He said: Tell him "You are my brother in Islam, and your daughter is permissible for me." So he came and gave him the marriage; at the time she was a six-year-old girl.
Hisham ibn ‘Urwa related from his father: I have not seen anyone more knowledgeable in legal doctrine [fiqh], nor in medicine, nor in verse, than ‘Aishah. And Abu Burda ibn Abi Musa related from his father: There was no issue difficult for us, about which we asked ‘Aishah, but that we found that she knew something regarding it. And Al-Zuhri said: If ‘Aishah’s knowledge were gathered against the knowledge of all the Mothers of the Believers and the knowledge of all women, ‘Aishah’s knowledge would be greater.
Hisham ibn 'Urwa relates from his father … and he mentions the hadith, which contains: "He said on the third time: Don't trouble me about 'Aishah; for indeed I swear by Allah, inspiration does not come down upon me when I am in the blanket of any of you women besides 'Aishah. …"
'Abd Al-Malik ibn 'Umair relates from 'Aishah that she said: I have been given special qualities that no woman has been given: the Messenger of Allah (may Allah pray over him and his family and salute him) took possession of me when I was a seven-year-old girl, the angel brought an image of me to him in his hand for him to look at, He had sex with me at seven, I saw Jibra'il, I was the most beloved of his women to him, I nursed him, and He was taken, and no one saw him but me and the angels. …
