The Messenger of Allah (SAW) saw 'Aishah in a dream, in a silk cloth. Khadijah passed away, and He said: If this is from Allah, He will make it come to pass. And He married her three years after Khadijah died, from what Al-Zubair recalls. … Abu 'Amr said: His (SAW) marital contract [nikah] with her was in the month of Shawwal, and his sex [ibtana'] with her was during Shawwal, and she liked joining the women of her household, and during Shawwal they liked her more than their husbands. She would say: Is there any of his women who had more favor with him than me? He contracted marriage with me and had sex with me in the month of Shawwal.
He (SAW) passed away on her when she was eighteen years of age, and she lived with him (SAW) for nine years …
Masruq, whenever he talked about 'Aishah, would say: The Truehearted, daughter of the Truthful, the Innocent one, the Exonerated, related this-and-that to me; Al-Sha'bi mentioned this about Masruq. Abu Al-Duha related from Masruq: I saw some shiekhs from among the greatest of the Messenger of Allah's (SAW) Companions ask her regarding religious duties. 'Ataa ibn Abi Rabah said: 'Aishah was the most learned in legal doctrine [fiqh] among people, the most knowledgeable of people, and had the best notions regarding ordinary people. Hisham ibn 'Urwa related from his father, who said: I have not seen anyone more knowledgeable in fiqh, nor in medicine, nor in verse, than 'Aishah. … Al-Zubair said: If 'Aishah's knowledge were gathered against the knowledge of all of the Prophet's (SAW) wives, or the knowledge of all women, 'Aishah's knowledge would be superior …
Khalifa ibn Khayyat said: It is said that she passed away in year fifty-eight, on a Tuesday night, seventeen nights into Ramadan. She gave the order that she be buried at night, and so she was buried after witr prayer in the Baqi' cemetery. And Abu Huraira prayed over her.
