The pre-ejaculate [madhy] is delicate fluid that comes out as a result of desire; its emission is not felt. There is no washing [ghusl] regarding it, but ablution [wudu’] from it is required, based on what Sahl ibn Hunaif (may Allah be pleased with him) related. He said: I used to release pre-ejaculate strongly and uncomfortably, and I washed myself more because of it; I mentioned this to the Messenger of Allah (SAW) and asked him about it. He said: For that, ablution is sufficient for you. A sound [sahih] hadith. But does this necessitate washing the penis and testicles? There are two applicable accounts; one of them is that this is not necessitated, from a hadith of Sahl. The second is that it is necessitated, based on what ‘Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) related. He said: I was a man who pre-ejaculated a lot, and I was ashamed to ask the Messenger of Allah (SAW) in the presence of his daughter. So I sent Miqdad and he asked Him for me. He said: He must wash his penis and testicles and perform ablution. Abu Dawud narrated this.
