{ And they ask you about menstruation; say: It is harm; therefore keep away from women during menstruation; and do not get close to them until they have become pure; and when they have purified themselves come to them where Allah has ordered you. Indeed Allah loves those who turn in repentance, and He loves those who purify themselves } Al-'baqara 222

From Ibn Mas’ud, who said: Menstruation is three [days], or four, or five, or six, or seven, or eight, or nine, or ten; if it exceeds that then it is vaginal bleeding. … Mujahid, regarding His word { Say: It is harm } , said: The blood is the harm. … Ibn ‘Abbas, regarding His word { Therefore keep away from women } , said: Keep away from marital relations [nikah] with their vaginas. … One of the Prophet’s (SAW) wives related that the Prophet (SAW), whenever He wanted something from a menstruating woman, would throw a garment over her vagina, and then He would do what He wanted.
