{ Oh you who have believed! Do not come for prayer when you are drunk, until you are aware of what you are saying, nor being sexually impure, unless you are on your way along a road, until you have bathed; and if you are sick or on a journey, or any of you has come from defecating [gha'it], or you have touched women, and you can not find any water, then dry wipe with clean earth, and wipe your faces and your hands. Indeed Allah is forbearing, forgiving } Al-nisaa 43

{ Or any of you has come from defecating } : having fulfilled his need, being a legitimate traveler, then let him dry wipe [tayammum] with clean earth. And “defecating” [gha’it] refers to the wide open and straight parts of valleys; this became an allusion for fulfilling one’s need, because the Arabs would prefer to fulfill their needs in gha’its.
