الإقناع في حل ألفاظ ابي شجاع للخطيب الشربيني كتاب الطهارة فصل والاستنجاء واجب من البول والغائط

That which is worthy of respect [muhtaram] is that which has a revered name written on it, or scholarship of hadith or jurisprudence. He [Abu Shuja’] said regarding proper obligations: knowledge of what is worthy of respect must be accurately examined, whether it is part of Islamic law [shar’], as above, or otherwise, such as arithmetic and the like, or medicine, or elements of language. For indeed these are useful in the legal sciences. However, that which is not worthy of respect, such as philosophy or logic involving it, then no, as some have said more recently. But that which does not involve it is not permissible, and on this distinction lies the loosening of restriction among those who have made it permissible. Al-Qadi [Zakariyya Al-Ansari] made it [wiping] permissible with pages of the Torah or the Injil, and this is borne on anything that is known to be altered of them, as well as the absence of the name of Allah Most High or the like. And what affirms something with knowledge worthy of respect in it, is that its cover is bound to it, but not so if the cover is detached [i.e. if the cover is detached, it is permissible]; in contrast to the case with the cover of a copy of the Qur’an, for wiping [istinjaa] with a copy of the Qur’an is expressly forbidden.

Al-Sharbini, Al-iqna’ fi Hal Alfadh Abi Shuja’ [Conviction in Understanding the words of Abu Shuja’], The book of purity, Section: cleansing [istinjaa, wiping] is obligatory after urinating or defecating
