When victory increased and Islam spread, they went out and dominated – like Abu Huraira and others – and did not desist. Then, it is said, the reasons for which bounty was sought were of six kinds, the greatest of which is the gain of our prophet Muhammad (SAW), who said: I have been made to prosper under the shadow of my spear; and disgrace and cringing for whoever goes against my orders. Al-Tirmidhi related this and considered it sound [sahih]. And Allah made the livelihood of His Prophet (SAW) to be in gaining for his bounty, and He gave him special favour through the best kind of gain – using subjugation and force for his honour.
