Allah Most High displays His wisdom in the absolution from the Idolaters, and His granting a delay to them for four months; then after this, a sharp sword wherever they are found. … The Most High says this to incite the Believers in enmity towards them and refusal to have anything to do with them, and to make it clear to them that they are not worthy that any pacts should be made with them, due to their ascribing associates [shirk] to Allah Most High and their disbelief in the Messenger of Allah (SAW).
