{ Oh Prophet! Incite the Believers to fight } : that is, rouse them or urge them on towards it. For this reason the Messenger of Allah (SAW) urged fighting when they were lined up and facing the enemy, as He said to his Companions on the day of Badr when the Idolaters were advancing with their numbers and their reinforcements: Rise up towards Jannah, as broad as the heavens and the earth! And ‘Umair ibn Al-Hammam said: As broad as the heavens and the earth?! The Messenger of Allah (SAW) said: Yes. And ‘Umair said: Excellent! Excellent! He said: What makes you say Excellent Excellent? ‘Umair said: I hope to be among its people. He said: Indeed you are among its people. So the man went ahead, broke the sheath of his sword, and took out some dates and started to eat them. Then he tossed the rest of them from his hand, and said: If I live to eat them, truly it was a long life. Then he pressed ahead, and fought until he was killed (may Allah be pleased with him).
