{ Indeed the recompense of those who war against Allah and His Messenger, and who intend corruption in the land, is that they be slaughtered, or crucified, or their hands and feet cut off on opposite sides, or they be banished from the land; this is their disgrace in this world, and in the hereafter theirs is a great punishment } Al-ma'ida 33

If people just take property and do not kill – as the Bedouins frequently did – then the right hand and left foot should be cut off of each individual, according to numerous scholars, like Abu Hanifa, Ahmad, and others. This is the meaning of the word of Allah Most High: { Or their hands and feet cut off on opposite sides } : the hand, used to strike, and the foot, used to walk on, are cut off, and the hand and the foot are finished with boiling oil or something similar so that bleeding is stopped and does not keep flowing and lead to decay.
