It is permissible to kill among the Idolaters – with the exception of those we have mentioned – all fighters, non-fighters, merchants, workmen – that is, laborers – the elderly, of sound mind or not, peasants, bishops, priests, monks, the blind, and the crippled who do not hinder anyone. It is also permissible to spare them; Allah Most High said: { Kill the Idolaters wherever you find them, and take hold of them, and bring them under siege, and sit in wait for them at every place of ambush; but if they turn in repentance, and observe prayer, and bring zakat, then let them go on their way } [Al-tawba 5]. And the Mighty and Sublime made killing general for all Idolaters unless they yield into Islam.
