كشاف القناع عن متن الإقناع للبهوتي كتاب الجهاد باب ما يلزم الإمام والجيش
And women are prohibited, due to the temptation they cause, and because they are not meant to fight, as they are overcome by frailty and cowardice, and because there is no guarantee that the enemy will not take hold of them and find it permissible to do to them what Allah Most High has forbidden. Some say: except the emir’s woman, to fulfill his need – based on what He (SAW) would do. And except women advanced in age, only to be of use, for example, in supplying water and taking care of the injured, based on what Rubayyi’ bint Mu’awwidh said: We used to go on attacks with the Prophet (SAW) to supply water and serve them, and we would bring the injured and the dead back to Medina. Al-Bukhari related this, and Muslim related similarly from Anas. Moreover men are distracted from battle by these things, so this would provide support for the Muslims.
