If a messenger from the enemy sends a gift to the commander of the army, there is no problem for him to accept it, and it becomes booty for the Muslims. If he is intent on them becoming Muslims, then he is allowed to be on good terms with them, and accept the gift, as well as give to them, acting in accordance with what He (peace upon him) said: Give gifts to each other to love each other. However if he is not intent on them becoming Muslims, he may show them the sense of harshness and severity by returning the gift.
