عن عكرمة قال أُتِيَ عليّ رضي الله عنه بزنادقة فأحرقهم فبلغ ذلك إبن عباس فقال لو كنت أنا لم أحرقهم لِنهي رسول الله ﷺ ولقتلتُهم لقول رسول الله ﷺ من بدّل دينه فاقتلوه

From ‘Ikrama, who said: Some nonbelievers [zanadiqa] were brought to ‘Ali, and he burned them. News of this reached Ibn ‘Abbas, and he said: If it were me, I would not have burned them, since the Messenger of Allah (SAW) prohibited that; I would have just killed them based on what the Messenger of Allah (SAW) said: Whoever changes his religion – kill him.
