‘Abdullah ibn ‘Abbas said: I asked ‘Ali ibn Abi Talib why “Bismillah Al-Rahman Al-Rahim” [In the name of Allah the Merciful the Compassionate] was not written in Surah Al-bara’a. He said: Because “Bismillah Al-Rahman Al-Rahim” is security [aman; safety/protection], and Al-bara’a came down by the sword; there is no security in it.
