{ Indeed your Lord knows that you all are up for close to two-thirds of the night, half of it, a third of it, and a group of those who are with you; and Allah decrees the night and the daytime; He knows that you can not keep track, and has turned to you, so recite what is easy of the Qur’an; He knows that there will be sick ones among you, and others go around the land seeking Allah’s bounty, and still others fight for the sake of Allah, so recite what is easy of it; and observe prayer, give zakat, and lend a good loan to Allah; whatever good things you put forth for yourselves, you will surely find better things with Allah, and the greatest rewards; so seek the forgiveness of Allah, indeed Allah is forgiving, merciful } Al-muzzammil 20

The word of the Most High: { That there will be sick ones among you, and others go around the land seeking Allah’s good favor, and still others fight for the sake of Allah } : that is, He knows that in this ummah there will be those with excuses for not getting up at night to pray, including sick people who are unable to do this, people traveling in the land seeking Allah’s bounty in profitable earnings and commerce, and others who are occupied in their most important duty of going on attacks for the sake of Allah. This verse, indeed the entire surah, is from Mecca, although fighting had not yet been prescribed – and this is one of the greatest proofs of the prophethood, in that it makes known divine secrets yet to come.
