{ The Bedouins say: “We have believed”; say: “You have not believed, but say rather: ‘We have yielded’; for indeed belief has not entered your hearts; but if you obey Allah and His Messenger, He will not minimize any of your works; indeed Allah is forgiving, merciful.” Truly the Believers are those who have believed in Allah and His Messenger, then have no misgivings, and wage jihad in the cause of Allah with their wealth and with themselves; these are the true ones } Al-hujarat 14-15

Al-Zuhri, of { The Bedouins say: “We have believed”; say: “You have not believed, but say rather: ‘We have yielded’ [aslamna, became Muslims] } , said: Indeed Islam is what is said, but belief is what is done. … He is letting them know that Believers, those who have believed in Allah and His Messenger, then have no misgivings, and wage jihad in the cause of Allah with their wealth and with themselves – those are the sincere ones, the ones who have attested to their belief by their deeds. Whoever among them says “I am a Believer” ought to be sincere; He says: Although anyone who professes belief with words but does not act on it, he is a liar and not being truthful. … Ibn Zaid, reciting the word of Allah { Say: “You have not believed, but say rather: ‘We have yielded’ } , said: ‘We have surrendered, we have entered into a state of peace, and have abandoned combat and fighting’, by them saying “There is no god but Allah” [“La ilaha illa Allah” ]. The Messenger of Allah (SAW) said: I have been ordered to fight people until they say “There is no god but Allah”, and if they say “There is no god but Allah”, their blood and their property are made unlawful to us, except when these are due, and their reckoning is with Allah. … { And wage jihad in the cause of Allah with their wealth and with themselves } ; He is saying: They wage jihad on the Idolaters [Mushrikeen] by spending their wealth and by freely giving their lives in jihad according to the jihad that Allah has ordered them; and this is His cause, so that the word of Allah be the utmost, and the word of those who have disbelieved be the lowest.
