{ If two groups of Believers get into a fight with each other, make things right between them; if one of them oppresses the other, then fight the one that is oppressive until they come back around to the commands of Allah; if they come back around, make things right between them fairly, and act justly; indeed Allah loves those who act justly } Al-hujarat 9

Sa’id ibn Jubair mentioned that there was a fight between the Aws and the Khazraj with palm branches and sandals, and so Allah Most High sent down this verse, and ordered conciliation between them. Al-Suddi said: There was a man from the Ansar called ‘Imran, who had a woman called Umm Zaid. The woman wanted to visit her family, but her husband locked her in an upper room of his where no one from her family could enter in to see her. So the woman sent word to her family, and her people came and got her down to take her away. The man had left, so the man’s family sought assistance, and his cousins came to intervene between the woman and her family. They pushed each other and struck each other with sandals, and so this verse came down concerning them. And the Messenger of Allah (SAW) sent someone out, and he made things right between them. So they came back around to the command of Allah Most High.
