{ Surely We will put you all to the test so We can know those among you who wage jihad, and those who are steadfast; and We will test your reports } Muhammad 31

He (may His remembrance be exalted) is saying to those of the Messenger of Allah’s (SAW) Companions who believe in Him: { Surely We will put you all to the test } : oh Believers, with killing and jihad against the enemies of Allah. { So We can know those among you who wage jihad } ; He is saying: So We can know who my party is, and my associates, those of you who wage jihad for Allah and those who are steadfast in fighting His enemies. And so He will make this clear to them, and those of you who show insight in their religion [deen] will be distinguished from those who doubt and are perplexed in it, those who believe from those who are hypocrites; and We will test your reports, so that We may know who among you is genuine from who is a liar.
