{ Allah turned back those who disbelieved, in their fury, and they gained nothing; and Allah spared the believers from fighting; indeed Allah is strong, mighty. And He made those of the People of the Book who supported them come down from their bastions, and flung terror into their hearts; you killed some, and you took some captive. And He bequeathed to you their land, their homes, their property, and land you have not yet walked on; and Allah has power to do all things } Al-ahzab 25-27
The Most High is informing about the Confederates, how He drove them away from Medina with the wind and divine armies that He sent against them. If Allah had not made His Messenger a mercy to the worlds, this wind would have been even more severe on them than the barren wind that He sent against ‘Ad; however the Most High said: { Surely it is not for Allah to punish them while you are among them } [Al-anfal 33]. And He empowered a wind against them that scattered their members as they had gathered together out of their liking. They were a mixture of tribes of a variety of parties and opinions, and so it was fitting for Him to send against them this wind that scattered their gatherings and sent them back frustrated, lost in their fury and their rage, having received nothing of good – neither the victory and spoils that they had longed for in this life, nor in the hereafter due to the sins that they had borne by fighting the Messenger (SAW) in enmity, and intending to kill him and eradicate his army. Whoever is intent on doing something and believes that his intent will be realized, is in reality just like someone who actually does it. … When Allah Most High came to his aid, championed him, held back the enemies, and sent them back frustrated in the worst kind of loss, the Messenger of Allah (SAW) returned to Medina championed and victorious, and the people laid down their weapons. And while the Messenger of Allah (SAW) was washing himself from the exertion of stationing the troops, in the house of Umm Salama (may Allah be pleased with her), behold Jibril (prayers and peace upon him) appeared to him with a gold-embroidered turban on his head and covering his face, riding a mule covered by a plush silk cloth. He said: Have you laid down the weapons, oh Messenger of Allah? He (SAW) replied: Yes. And Jibril said: But the angels have not laid down their weapons, and just now I am returning from pursuing people. Then he said: Indeed Allah Most Blessed and Exalted commands you to make haste towards the Banu Qurayza. In another narration he said to him: What an excuse of a fighter you are! Have you laid down the weapons? He replied: Yes. And Jibril said: But we have not yet laid down our weapons – Make haste towards them! He said: Where? Jibril said: Banu Qurayza; indeed Allah Most High has ordered me to shake them up. So the Messenger of Allah (SAW) made haste immediately and ordered people to advance towards Banu Qurayza, who were several miles from Medina. This was after the midday [dhuhr] prayer.
