{ Among the Believers are men who were true to what they pledged to Allah, among them are those who consummated their release from life, and among them are those who wait, and have not at all wavered } Al-ahzab 23

The word of Him whose remembrance is exalted: { Among the Believers } : in Allah and His Messenger; { are men who were true to what they pledged to Allah } . He is saying: They fulfilled the steadfastness in combat and adversity that they had pledged to Him, and at the moment of valor, { among them were those who consummated their release from life } ; He is saying: Among them were those who completed the work which they had vowed to Allah, and which they had made their personal obligation to Him. Some were martyred on the day of Badr, some on the day of Uhud, and some in other places. { And among them are those who wait } : To fulfill it and to complete it, just as those who have gone before them fulfilled their loyalty to Allah in their pledge. Steadfastness is from Allah, and the victory is over His enemy. “Release from life” means a vow in the way the Arabs spoke.
