{ Indeed Allah granted you victory in many territories, and on the day of Hunayn, when you relished your abundance, although it was of no use to you, for the land grew narrow to you even as it became spacious, then you turned away in retreat. Then Allah sent down His reaffirming tranquility over His Messenger and over the Believers, and He sent down troops which you did not see, and punished those who disbelieved; and this is the recompense of the Disbelievers } Al-tawba 25-26

Al-Suddi, regarding { And punished those who disbelieved } , said: He killed them by the sword. … Sa’id, regarding { And punished those who disbelieved } , said: by utter defeat and killing. … Ibn Zaid, regarding His word: { And punished those who disbelieved; and this is the recompense of the Disbelievers } , said: Whoever is left of them.
