It is narrated from Anas that he said: When the Messenger of Allah (SAW) passed away, all the Arabs apostatized. And ‘Umar said: Oh Abu Bakr, do you want us to fight all the Arabs?! Abu Bakr said: Indeed the Messenger of Allah (SAW) said: If they testify that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, observe prayer, and give zakat, they have kept their blood and their wealth safe from me. I swear by Allah that if they withheld from me even a young she-goat that they had given to the Messenger of Allah (SAW), I would fight them for it! ‘Umar said: When I saw Abu Bakr’s attitude and how he had been laid bare, I knew that it was true.
