{ You all appealed to your Lord for help, and He answered you: “I will support you with a thousand angels coming one after the other”. Allah did this only as good tidings, and so that your hearts might be at ease; there is no victory except from Allah; indeed Allah is mighty, wise. Behold He covered you with slumber as a means of safety from Him, and sent down water from heaven on you to purify you with it, to remove the filth of Satan from you, to strengthen your hearts, and affirm your feet by it. For your Lord has made known to the angels: Indeed I am with you, so affirm those who have believed; I shall cast terror into the hearts of those who have disbelieved, so strike over the necks and strike off all their fingertips. This is because they have antagonized Allah and His Messenger; whoever antagonizes Allah and His Messenger – indeed Allah is severe in punishment } Al-anfal 9-13

Malik said: It was made known to me that Jibril (peace be upon him) asked the Prophet (SAW): What do you think of those of you at Badr? He said: The best of us. Jibril said: Indeed it is likewise with us. This subtantiates that the glory of the created beings is not in their own selves; rather it is in deed. For the honorable deeds of the angels are to persevere in giving continuous praise, while our deeds are devotion to obedience. Acts of obedience rival for precedence in their preference to the divine law in them; the best of these is jihad, and the best jihad was on the day of Badr, because Islam was established there. The fact that the Prophet (SAW) went out to meet the caravan substantiates the permissibility of mobilizing to take plunder, since this is lawful gain. This refutes Malik’s dislike of it, when he said that this is only fighting for worldly gain, and when he stated that whoever fights so that the word of Allah be the utmost, he is in the cause of Allah, except those who fight for plunder.
