Apostates deserve death due to the apostasy itself – without them having waged war – they are not to be banished nor are their hands or feet to be cut off nor are they to be sent on their way, rather they are to be killed if they do not yield into Islam; nor are they to be crucified. This indicates that the verse encompasses everything that apostates do.
