{ Have you not seen those to whom it was said: Restrain your hands, and observe prayer, and give zakat? Then when fighting was ordained for them, indeed a group of them feared people as they would fear Allah, or with even greater fear; and they said: Our Lord! Why have you ordained fighting for us? If only you would postpone it for us a little while. Say: The enjoyment of this world is little, but the hereafter is better for those who are devout; and you will not be defrauded so much as a date fiber } Al-nisaa 77

From Qadata, who said regarding this verse: Some people from the Prophet’s (SAW) Companions, while they were in Mecca before the emigration [hijra], were restless to rush into fighting; they said to the Prophet (SAW): Leave us to grab some pickaxes to fight the Idolaters with. It was mentioned to us that ‘Abd Al-Rahman ibn ‘Awf was one of those who said this. But the Prophet of Allah (SAW) forbade them; He said: I have not been ordered to do that. Then after the hijra, when they had now been ordered to fight, people were averse to it, and did what you all have heard about already; Allah Most High said: { Say: The enjoyment of this world is little, but the hereafter is better for those who are devout; and you will not be defrauded so much as a date fiber } .
