{ Oh you who have believed! Be on guard, then mobilize in squads or mobilize all together. Indeed there are some of you who surely lag behind, and if misfortune comes upon you they say: “Allah has granted me favor in that I was not present with them”. But if good fortune from Allah comes upon you, indeed they say – as if there were no fondness between you and them – “Oh how I wish I had been with them, to be victorious in great victory”. So then, those who sell this worldly life in exchange for the hereafter, let them fight in the cause of Allah; and whoever fights in the cause of Allah and is either killed or overcomes, We will bring him a great reward } Al-nisaa 71-74

Ibn Juraij, regarding { Indeed there are some of you who surely lag behind } , said: The hypocrites hold the Muslims back from jihad in the cause of Allah … Sa’id ibn Jubair, regarding { And we will bring them a great reward } : this means abundant recompense in Jannah, for He has made the Muslims who kill, as well as those who get killed in jihad against the Idolaters, to both share in the reward.
