{ Oh you who have believed! Do not be like those who have disbelieved and say to their brothers when they set out in the land or go on raids: “If they had been with us they would not have died and would not have been killed”, such that Allah makes this a cause for grief in their hearts; for Allah gives life and brings death, and Allah sees what you all do. And indeed whether you are killed for the sake of Allah, or die, surely forgiveness from Allah and mercy are better than what those people accumulate. And indeed if you die, or are killed, truly unto Allah you are gathered } Al ‘Imran 156-158
Then the Most High said: { And indeed whether you are killed for the sake of Allah, or die, surely forgiveness from Allah and mercy are better than what those people accumulate } ; that is, indeed every being must die, so dying for the cause of Allah or getting killed – if only they knew and were assured – is better than what they accumulate in this world, for which they postpone jihad, fearing death and killing, due to the splendor of this worldly life which they have accumulated, of little value in the hereafter. { And indeed if you die, or are killed } : whichever of these it is; { Truly unto Allah you are gathered } : that is, indeed the return is to Allah, so let not this world entice you, and do not be enticed by it; but rather let jihad, and the desire for reward that Allah has roused in you, be more appealing to you.
