{ Oh you who have believed! Do not be like those who have disbelieved and say to their brothers when they set out in the land or go on raids: “If they had been with us they would not have died and would not have been killed”, such that Allah makes this a cause for grief in their hearts; for Allah gives life and brings death, and Allah sees what you all do. And indeed whether you are killed in the cause of Allah, or die, surely forgiveness from Allah and mercy are better than what those people accumulate. And indeed if you die, or are killed, truly unto Allah you are gathered } Al ‘Imran 156-158
{ Oh you who have believed! Do not be like those who have disbelieved and say to their brothers … } and the rest of the verse; that is, do not be like the hypocrites who hold back their brothers from jihad in the cause of Allah. … { For Allah gives life and brings death } : For Allah is the hastener of death upon whoever He wishes, from wherever He wishes; and He is the bringer of death upon whoever He wishes, whenever He wishes; none other than Him from the rest of His creation. This is, from Allah Mighty and Sublime, an arousing of desire in His servants the Believers to wage jihad against His enemy, to be steadfast in fighting them, and to cast out from their breasts any anxiety concerning them; even if they are small in number and their enemies and Allah’s enemies are great in number. It is a declaration from Him to them that the bringing of death and the giving of life are in His hand, and that no one will die, nor will anyone be killed, until the allotted time ordained for him has come to pass.
