{ Have you not seen those who left their homes by the thousands, wary of death, and Allah said to them: "Die!" and then brought them back to life? Indeed Allah is of bountiful favour towards people, but most people are not grateful. So fight in the cause of Allah, and know that Allah is hearing, knowing } Al-baqara 243-244
Indeed what is central to this verse is that Allah Most High sends a message to His Prophet Muhammad (SAW), making it known as a way of forewarning and restraint, regarding a group of men who had left their homes fleeing from death. Allah caused them to die, then brought them back to life, so that they and all who came after them would know that when death is caused it is indeed only by Allah’s permission, not by the hand of any other. It is therefore meaningless for anyone to be afraid. Allah Most High made this verse foremost in His command to the Believers of Muhammad’s ummah to wage jihad; this is what Al-Tabari said, and is the clear way to affirm the verse.
