From Qatada regarding His word { And it is neither for a believing man nor a believing woman, whenever Allah and his Messenger have decreed a matter, for them to have a choice regarding their matter } ; he said: This verse came down regarding Zainab bint Jahsh, who was the paternal cousin of the Messenger of Allah (SAW). And when she realized that he had proposed to her for Zaid ibn Haritha, she refused and disallowed it. Then Allah sent down { And it is neither for a believing man nor a believing woman, whenever Allah and his Messenger have decreed a matter ...} , so she followed him after that and consented.
