{ Oh you who have believed! Indeed the Idolaters are filthy, so let them not come near the Sacred Mosque after this year of theirs } Al-tawba 28
He (may His remembrance be exalted) is saying to those who believe in Him and in His Messenger and affirm His oneness: Idolaters [Mushrikun] are nothing but filthy. Expositors differ as to the meaning of “filthy” [najis] and the reason why He calls them such. Some say: He calls them such because they become sexually impure, and they do not wash. He is saying: They are filthy, so let them not come near the Sacred Mosque, because someone who is sexually impure [junub] ought not to enter the mosque. … Mu’amar, regarding His word: { Indeed the Idolaters are filthy } , related: I only know that Qatada said “filth” means sexual impurity; Mu’amar moreover said: I heard that the Prophet (SAW) met up with Hudhaifa, and the Prophet (SAW) took hold of his hand, and Hudhaifa said: Oh Messenger of Allah! But I am sexually impure. He replied: Indeed a Believer does not get filthy. … Others say that the meaning of this is that Idolaters are nothing but pig or dog filth.
