{ But if you punish, then punish in the same way by which you have been punished, although if you are forbearing, it is better for those who are forbearing } Al-nahl 126
Ibn Zaid, regarding His word: { But if you punish, then punish in the same way by which you have been punished } , said: Allah ordered them to excuse the Idolaters, but some tough men became Muslims and said: Oh Messenger of Allah, if Allah gave us permission we would take revenge on these dogs! Then the full portion of Qur’an came down: { But if you punish, then punish in the same way by which you have been punished, although if you are forbearing, it is better for those who are forbearing } : and you be forbearing too, Oh Muhammad, and do not worry about who will take revenge; only by Allah can you be forbearing. But then this was abrogated and He ordered him to wage jihad on them. And all of this is abrogated.
