‘Abd Al-Rahman ibn Ziyad said: ‘Umara ibn Ghurab related to me that an aunt of his told him that she asked ‘Aishah, mother of the believers, saying: If the husband of one of us wants her and she refuses herself to him, either because she is upset or has no energy, is there any offense in that for us? She said: Yes; it is within his right over you that even if he wants you and you are on the back of a saddle, you do not refuse him. She said: And I asked her about if one of us is menstruating and she and her husband only have one bed or one blanket, what should she do? And she said: She should tighten her waist wrap around her, then sleep with him, and whatever is above that is his; but I will tell you what the Prophet (SAW) did – it was my night with Him and I cooked something out of barley and made a patty for Him. He came in, shut the door, and went into the place of prostration; and if He wanted to sleep He closed the door, inclined the waterskin, turned the drinking cups over, and put out the lamp. And I waited for Him to come out so I could feed Him the patty, but He did not leave until I was overcome by sleep. And the cold hurt Him so He came to me and woke me up, then said: Warm me, warm me. I said to Him: But I am menstruating. And He said: Then just uncover your thighs. So I uncovered my thighs for Him, and He put his cheek and head on my thighs until He became warm.
