Ibn Ishaq said: Muhammad ibn Ja’far ibn Al-Zubair related to me from ‘Urwa ibn Al-Zubair, from ‘Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her), who said: When the Messenger of Allah (SAW) divided up the prisoners of the Banu Mustaliq, Juwairiyah bint Al-Harith fell into the lot of Thabit ibn Qais ibn Al-Shammas, or to a cousin of his, and she agreed on a ransom price with him. And she was a gorgeously beautiful woman; she captivated anyone who saw her. She came to the Messenger of Allah (SAW) to seek help from him regarding her ransom – ‘Aishah said – and I swear by Allah as soon as I saw her at the door of my chamber I disliked her, and I knew that He would see in her what I saw. She went in to see him and said: Oh Messenger of Allah, I am Juwairiyah the daughter of Al-Harith bin Abi Dirar, the chief of his people; and affliction has befallen me as you are well aware, and I have fallen into the lot of Thabit ibn Qais ibn Al-Shammas or a cousin of his, and have agreed with him on my ransom, and I have come to you seeking help with my ransom. He said: Is there not something better than that for you? She said: And what is it, oh Messenger of Allah?! He said: I will take care of your ransom and marry you. She said: Yes, oh Messenger of Allah. He said: It is done. And the news that the Messenger of Allah (SAW) had married Juwairiyah bint Al-Harith ibn Dirar spread around to people, and they said: The Messenger of Allah’s (SAW) kinsfolk by marriage now; and they released [the Banu Mustaliq prisoners] that they had taken possession of. ‘Aishah said: A hundred families from the Banu Mustaliq were set free because of his marriage to her; and I know of no woman who was a greater blessing to her people than her.
