Abu Barza Al-Aslami related that Julaibib was a man who went in to see women – he would pass by them and flirt with them. I said to my woman: Do not let Julaibib come in to see you all today, for indeed if he comes in to see you, I will surely do this and that. He said: The Ansar, whenever any of them had a marriageable girl, would not marry her off until they confirmed – did the Prophet of Allah (SAW) have a need for her or not? The Messenger of Allah (SAW) said to one of the Ansari men: Give your daughter in marriage to me. He said: Yes, with honour and pleasure, oh Messenger of Allah. But He continued: Indeed I do not want her for myself. The man said: Then for who, oh Messenger of Allah? He said: For Julaibib. The man said: Oh Messenger of Allah, let me consult with her mother. And so he went to her mother and said: The Messenger of Allah (SAW) has proposed marriage to your daughter. She said: Sure, with all pleasure. But he said: Indeed He has not proposed to her for himself; He has proposed to her for Julaibib. And she said: Julaibib? No way! Julaibib? No way! No, as Allah lives, she will not marry him. And when the man wanted to get up and go to the Messenger of Allah (SAW) to tell him what her mother had said, the girl said: Who has asked you to marry me? Her mother told her. And she said: Are you refusing the Messenger of Allah’s (SAW) orders? Give me away to him, for indeed nothing bad will happen to me. So her father went out to the Messenger of Allah (SAW) and said: Have your way with her. And He married her to Julaibib.
